Hi viewers!
It's my first module at SYTG (6 weeks) and I have made loads of friends. Jasmine, Emily, Jess, Cathie and many more! I love it here at the classes and I am looking forward to the next module and also I can't wait to audition for plays to begin because I'm a very good dancer and singer although in mime you don't need to talk!
I better get going coz I'm probably boring you to sleep!
Bye for now

Hi I'm Charlie and I'm 11 years old. I joined SYTG just after Annie. I love acting and dancing (but can't sing) and would like to do more drama when I'm older. When I joined, I was really quiet and shy and couldn't speak in front of people but since I joined SYTG my confidence has really been boosted.
SYTG is great because:
-The staff are really helpful
-You make loads of new friends
-You get to try things you've never done before
Think I've rambled on enough now :]

Alreet Boys and Girls, it's Richard, was surfing on the net and checked out the SYTG site and thought I would send in a post telling you about my time in SYTG.
Well I have been involved in SYTG of SYTG PA as it is now known since I was 15 and I am now 22! God I'm old. My first show was 'Annie' at Barrington, and I made some great friends that I still have (Namely Amy). I then did my GCSE's so couldn't do 'Once on this Island', but helped backstage. Then came my first chance to show what I could do, this was '5 Guys Named Moe', it was my first principle part and I had the time of my life. After that came the VERY confusing Godspell, which was just as enjoyable, as I was the only male principle and had 11 girls to work with. Then came the unbelievable 'FAME', where I was cast as Tyrone the illiterate dancer. One problem (I'm not a dancer) but I put everything I had into it and was at that point my favourite show. As some of you may know we then went to London to perform three songs (one of which was mine) to say I was scared is an understatement, the toilet was used a lot!
Unfortunately then came my break, as A levels and University beckoned, but then a lifeline, 7 Brides was being done in the Easter Holidays and I auditioned and got the part of Gideon. Those two weeks of rehearsal are one of the happiest memories I have when I look back over my time and am so pleased that I had the chance. Now I'm about to finish Uni and become a Primary Teacher, but I hope to come back and have some kind of role in this company as I love it with all my heart and the people in it, who are so supportive of everyone and willing to do anything.
You will all know my mother (KAZZA), who followed me to SYTG and then some how (I'm still not sure how) became the director. She, along with Steve do a fantastic job with the shows, but you also need to be thankful to the people behind the scenes. These people make everything happen, because believe me it is not easy putting on a major production. Treat all the staff with respect and use their advice as it is invaluable and remember they do not get paid for doing this, it is all their free time and love of theatre.
My God I have rambled, but I guess that's cause I really respect and love the society.
Probably see you one Thursday when I'm back from Liverpool.
Rich

Hey! SYTGers, you cheeky people!
The name's Joe, I've been at SYTG for . . . . well, I can't remember how long, and attempting to remember means using my brain, which I'm not hugely fond of doing too much.
My first real show with the gang was Joseph, where I played Simeon, the second oldest brother. Now this really disappointed me, because I was under the impression that a Simeon was some sort of monkey, and I was going to play him.
Little was I to know that I would be playing a monkey in the recent Christmas show, as King Louie from The Jungle Book, and also Sebastian the crab from The Little Mermaid. In my humble opinion, that was the best show we've done with SYTG because it gave me ample opportunity to make an idiot of myself on stage. I think I was an idiot with style though, I mean, come on, I was wearing furry trousers, a Hawaiian shirt and a Rastafarian hat, for goodness sake!
I played Daddy Warbucks in Annie, which was good fun, except for the nosebleed. I think Sandie saved my life that night, so I owe her one.
Can't think of much else to say really. Hope this gave you some sort of insight into my short but colourful life within SYTG. If not, I apologise.
Joe

Hi everyone,
'm Beki and I've been at SYTG for 3 years now and I'm loving it!!!!
I've met some groovy people along the way, like Charlotte (Annie) Fizzy (Miss Farrell) Lauren (Bet Healy) Auntie Sandy + Uncle Keith…
… Hannah (we love you Miss Hanigan!!) Nicky + Sarah (white Gospel choir la la) Drake Jo Norman…
… Lisa Beca and Sian…
I've learnt a lot from coming to drama and I'm thanking Leah for bringing me. I love drama so much and I'm pleased to say that SYTG has improved my confidence…
I can't wait till the next show where I hope I can show my talent more as being in Annie is just a little taster of what I have learnt from coming here.
Doing the audition for Disney helped me more confident and I am happy that Auntie Sandy + Norman helped me conker my fear ok microphones.
Just remember Sytg is not just for the best people in the world but for people to learn.

Hi my name is Kirstie (aka Fizzy!). I am 15 years old and this is my 8th year with SYTG and a fantastic 8 years at that. I have performed in shows such as Bugsy Malone, Fame, Return to the Forbidden Plannet, Once on this Island and many more! As well as performing in the North East, I also went with the group down to London to perform songs from our show at the time, Fame, in Her Majesty's Theatre. I would like to than everybody at SYTG
(committee and friends alike) because without them I may not be where I am today. Without SYTG I would never of had the confidence to step one foot on a stage, let alone sing, dance and act in front of hundreds of people. In the near future I am hoping to pursue my life long dream of becoming a West End actress. I love performing and can't imagine doing anything else as a career.
Ciao for now! xxxxxxxxxxxx p.p.s This is for Matt - 'Bob's your Uncle!' he he

Hi All
I am Sandie, my three children attend SYTG for both the weekly workshops and shows. The growth in confidence and talent I have seen in my own girls has been amazing, I still cry when they are on stage - soft I know.
I have been involved with SYTG for several years now and have just been elected as
Secretary. Unfortunately, I am not able to sing, dance or act although I do keep trying
(I do make peoples ears bleed when I sing out loud!). This does not stop me from helping with the skills I have behind the scenes which on occasion can be as little as moving equipment,
supervising young people and shopping for the tuck shop to as much as organising shows and negotiating with local authorities for funds. Having had no experience in theatre, the support and direction offered to me from other members of the committee has been invaluable.
I have to say throughout the time I have been with the theatre group I have been honoured to have met some fantastic young people. Every week I am astounded at the talent to entertain and the motivation to improve all skills and abilities. The team work and support within all members of the group is second to none. The commitment of all members of the committee to provide time and experiences free of charge is rewarded with each new skill learned,
confidence gained and performance carried out.
May the company and members continue to grow and have experiences they will never forget.
To all I thank you for allowing me to be part of your success
Sandie

Hey, I've been with SYTG for about a year and a half. I love coming here and I have made loads of new friends. At the moment we are rehearsing for the production of Annie in which I play the part of the drunk and evil owner of the orphanage, Miss Hannigan. I have really enjoyed playing the baddie! As this is my first main part I was very surprised to hear I was Miss Hannigan but also very excited.
During my time at SYTG I have performed at events including carol singing at the Metro Centre and Seven Brides for seven brothers at the Gala theatre. I have been on the trip to London at the end of last year which was amazing and the trip to Bradford which also great. SYTG is a great way to develop your performance skills and build your confidence.
Love 'n' hugs
Hannah

Well …… sytg where do I start! I have been with these guys for nearly 10 years now n yeah I'm still a member. So you all probs know who I am its me the one and only normie. I was looking at the other sytg blogs and thought its about time I did one so here I go.
It all began many years ago I was but a wee kiddiewink when I saw a poster sayin bout auditions for a show called Oliver so I thought well y not, but bak then I wuz quite shy n heldbak not the norm you knw 2day. Neway thts how I joined sytg.
Now sumthing every1 probs wonders. Y normie? Well it used 2 b Norman stil is sumtimes wel wen I first joined sytg those many moons ago there used 2 b these twix adverts on with this guy called the norm and I used 2 luk like him wen I wuz a kid n a guy called Paul foster sed can we call you Norman n its jus kinda stuck.
The SYTG we all knw 2day is very different 2 how it used 2 b. Once over we used 2 do 2 shows a year, so we did a show a few workshops then there wuz another show around the corner. You never used 2 b trained, but SYTG 2day actually tutors you and helps further your abilities and confidence, which is much better.

My name is Sophie, I have been at SYTG for about a year and a bit.
I love to act, am not keen on the singing and the dancing but I try hard. I would sing with groups but now well on my own. I really have fun here and have made loads of friends.
The leaders are funny and supportive. The have recently taken us to Bradford to the film museum and organised a range of activities for us. The best trip of all was London last year. That was so much fun, we went to see The Lion King, that was amazing, the hotel was fab and it wasn't too far from the town.
I LOVE COMING HERE and would recommend it to anyone.

Hi
I'm Lindsay and I have been a part of SYTG for 8 years in October. I feel that I have grown in all aspects of drama due to the impressive tuition of the staff. I love being a member of this group as everyone are friends and get along great. I have taken part in a number of shows starting with The Forbidden Planet in October 1999 to The
Forbidden Planet 2003. The staff are so friendly and base their work on having fun and the children's enjoyment. Being a part of this group for so long, I have seen
children come in as quiet as mice, and with a bit of work they become stage stars. I love watching children realise how great they really are (Sophie). Anyway enough of me going on, I'm glad the group are here and I hope they are here for many years to come!
Hugs and Kisses xxxxxx

Hiya,
To kick the blog off I thought I would write a few words. I have been involved with SYTG PA for 11 years now!! It's all Bob's fault. I was working on a show as a lighting designer many, many moons ago. In those days Bob used to work for a theatrical supply company (I'll not talk too much about them as it gives Bob nightmares). Whilst trying to get the best deal possible off this company, as is the tradition, Bob offered me a cuppa and after a small exchange of friendly banter he explained that he was involved with a theatre group in Spennymoor who were performing Bugsy Malone. He went on to say that they were short of a second keyboard player and did I know of anyone?
I was up for this and so offered my services. Several days passed and I had forgotten about this conversation, then Bob called - "You know you said that you would play keyboards for us? Well there's been a development, how do you fancy being musical director?"
The first rehearsal was strange to say the least! I walked through the door to a group of complete strangers, I was welcomed with the greeting "Hi Steve, there's the
piano, there's the score and there are your cast - see you in 2 hours?"
My style of working did initially cause a few arguments for instance "you want to
rehearse that song again? What do you mean the chorus need more Brucies?"
But things settled down really well and very quickly we formed the basis of the team we have today.
Over the last 11 years I have had the privilege to work with some of the best and most enthusiastic young people in the North East. A lot have moved on and I have never seen again which is sad (indeed some are Mums themselves now). I love to meet new people and follow them as they develop from very shy chorus members to fully blossoming confident principal singers and dancers.
My best piece of advice is, if you have a dream - go for it
(It might not turn out but if you don't try you'll never know)
See you soon - keep writing
Squidges,
Steve
